The Career Services Team recently received an email from Claire Smith, a Class of 2024 student, sharing the exciting news of her acceptance into the University of Western Australia's (UWA) Medicine program.
This achievement is a testament to Claire's dedication to her studies and her active involvement in College life as the 2024 College Captain. Earlier this year, Claire was honoured with the Marian Award for achieving the highest ATAR score in her cohort. She also received a Certificate of Merit and a Certificate of Excellence in English.
Claire's journey began in Year 10 with a Career Planning meeting with Mr Briers, where she started exploring her interests in future careers. She attended various medicine pathway information sessions, including those facilitated by Emma Cooper from the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia at Our Lady of Mercy College and 'Club Medicine' hosted at the Rural Clinical School WA Office in Bunbury. Emma Cooper has been an invaluable resource, providing information and support to students interested in health careers.
In her email, Claire expressed her gratitude:
“We didn't have many meetings (I think around three?), but the few we did really helped to deepen my understanding of the process of getting into uni - and how to get accommodation as well. The numerous resources and contacts you (the Career Services Team) exposed my year group to was especially beneficial to me. I truly don't think I would have gotten through my med interview if it weren't for Emma whom you introduced me to.”

Our Lady of Mercy College is grateful for the invaluable support provided by Emma and the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia. Emma Cooper continues to support our students, offering guidance through her visits and informative sessions.
We wish Claire all the best as she starts this exciting new chapter in her life. Her hard work has truly paid off, and we are confident she will continue to excel in her medical studies and beyond. Congratulations, Claire.
