Meet Neveiah Parravicini, a graduate of the Class of 2022 who’s now building a dynamic career in project management.
What are you doing now? Tell us about your job or studies and your journey since graduating:
After graduating high school, I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work at the Shire of Harvey as a Youth Trainee, specifically in the business unit Community Development, where I completed a Certificate II Community Services. The year-long program also led me to be offered a position in environmental health at the Shire. Since my time at the College, I have found a passion for Project Management. I have completed a Certificate IV in Project Management and have started my Diploma in Project Management.
How did your time at Our Lady of Mercy College shape your career or studies? Were there any teachers, subjects, or programs that inspired you?
My time at the College allowed me to explore the many choices we have when choosing a career. I was fortunate enough to be taught by many amazing teachers who believed in and supported me; they didn't just teach the content but connected on a personal level, making learning feel relevant to the real world.
What is a memorable moment from your time at Our Lady of Mercy College?
A memorable moment for me at the College was, for sure, graduation. Although saying farewell to those we spent so long with is sad and can be daunting as we enter that next stage of our lives, it also brings so much opportunity and a great sense of pride that all the hard work brought us to that moment.
What lessons or values from your time at the College do you still carry with you?
The College instilled in me hard work, dedication, persistence, respect, and a love for knowledge. These values have become the foundation of my approach to both my personal and professional life. I am grateful to the College for nurturing these qualities and creating an environment where I was encouraged to grow intellectually and personally.
If you could give advice to a student at Our Lady of Mercy College about preparing for life after high school, what would it be?
If I could give advice to a student at the College about preparing for life after high school, I would suggest focusing on building a strong foundation of skills, mindset and relationships that will serve you well in the future. I would definitely suggest developing time management skills, being open to new experiences (you never know where they will take you), focusing on building connections with people who support you, finding ways that work for you to manage stress, developing a love for learning because it doesn't just stop in high school, be persistent and stay true to who you are even when times are tough.
What has been the biggest challenge since leaving school, and how have you handled it?
For myself, the biggest challenge has been balancing full-time work and full-time studies. Project Management has been a great course of study for me as it has really set the foundations to prioritising tasks, managing my time effectively and ensuring I stay on top of both work and study commitments. By learning the various project management tools and methodologies, I've been able to apply those skills directly to my daily life. I've learnt the importance of adaptability and flexibility and to recognise not everything will go as planned, but being able to pivot when necessary is essential to staying on track.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?:
In the next five years, I hope to continue to grow both personally and professionally. I hope to have significantly progressed in my career and taking on more leadership responsibilities and expanding my skills in the project management field.
We wish Neveiah all the best in her future endeavours.
