Our Year 8 students have been putting their entrepreneurial skills to the test through the $20 Boss program, turning creative ideas into real businesses. With just a $20 investment, they developed, marketed, and launched their very own small ventures, showcasing innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving.
During week 9, lunchtimes were buzzing as students set up stalls selling a variety of products, including bracelets, stickers, popcorn, cupcakes, and even toffee apples. The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience the challenges and rewards of running a business firsthand.

Jet, John, and Mason shared their journey of selling 3D printed products:
What inspired your business idea, and how did you decide what to sell?
It was something that we already knew how to do and something that was cost effective. And we put out posters and get pre-orders and design ideas.
What was the biggest challenge you faced during the project, and how did you overcome it? The time it took to print was pretty challenging. We worked overtime and tried to run a printing time sheet.
What was the most exciting or rewarding part of running your own business? Getting lots of pre-orders and getting told that our stall got talked about.
If you had the chance to do this again, what would you do differently? We would start earlier, have a detailed plan and set out our poster earlier in order to get more orders and consumers.
What key lessons did you learn about business, teamwork, or problem solving through this experience? We all need to do our part in order for our stall and business to run smoothly and have the chance to start earlier.
Chloe, Tayla, Gemma and Indee shared their journey of launching a cookie business:
What inspired your business idea, and how did you decide what to sell?
A lot of people like cookies and we all enjoy baking. We thought cookies would sell well.
What was the biggest challenge you faced during the project, and how did you overcome it? Making more cookies overnight. We all worked together to make more, and our parents were a massive help.
What was the most exciting or rewarding part of running your own business? When we sold out, straight away, and every day, people came up to us and said they were delicious.
If you had the chance to do this again, what would you do differently? We would make a lot more and not sell the triple chocolate chip cookies.
What key lessons did you learn about business, teamwork, or problem solving through this experience? We realised that we need to work together to get stuff done and we can’t do stuff individually.
The $20 Boss program has given our students a hands-on learning experience in business and entrepreneurship. Who knows? We may have some future business leaders in the making.
