STEM education extends beyond traditional school subjects, providing a skill set that shapes how we think and behave.
By merging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, STEM encourages us to address and solve the world's current challenges.
This interdisciplinary approach enhances students' abilities to collaborate, innovate, create, appreciate, and think critically. At Our Lady of Mercy College, a CEWA school, STEM is integrated across all learning areas, pushing the boundaries of traditional education.
CEWA STEM Showcase
In Week 2 of Term 3, Our Lady of Mercy College hosted the CEWA STEM Showcase, inviting regional schools to participate in a day filled with exciting STEM activities and presentations from leading local professionals.
Students engaged with a panel of STEM professionals, including Brandon from the Bunbury Flying School, Farm Manager Luke, Tegan from Fortescue Metals, Giselle from Sanax Medical, and Lloyd from Southern Ports Bunbury.
This provided a unique opportunity for students to ask questions and gain insights from experts in the field.
The event also featured presentations of student STEM projects, such as the H2O Hotel for Possums, Space Junk Exterminators, Volcano Models, and Water Filtration Systems.
A special congratulations to Mahlia and Gaganatha, whose innovative STEM projects impressed both judges and visitors, earning them the prestigious CEWA STEM awards for the event.
