This year, as a result of our successful Feast Day and other initiatives such as Pancake Tuesday, the College raised an impressive amount of money to support a range of charities. Alongside donations to global organisations such as Mercy Works, Caritas, and Catholic Mission, we also contributed to Catholic Care, the Bunbury Diocese aid agency that supports local community groups across the South West.
Every year, the College chooses a project within the local community to support. In 2024, the focus was the St Brigid Feeding Ministry, coordinated by the Collie parish, which commenced in June 2022. The project began as a small gesture towards individuals and families in Collie who were struggling with their limited resources. Parish Priest Fr Gerald Tan cooked meals from whatever he could find in his pantry. Word spread quickly and Fr Gerald soon found himself catering 50 meals every Tuesday.
With the financial support of Bendigo Bank and Collie residents, as well as donations of fresh produce and food items, the Feeding Ministry was able to stay afloat. Every Christmas, the Feeding Ministry and parishioners host a Christmas lunch for St Brigid's parish members who are by themselves.
“Many thanks to the leadership of Our Lady of Mercy College, Principal Rob Crothers, and to Mrs Karyn Cronin for coordinating a generous donation of $3,000 towards this ministry,” said Fr Gerald Tan.
Our thanks go to the whole College community - students, staff and families - for their generosity in supporting our fundraising efforts.
