Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As you may be aware, I returned to my role as Principal of the College from the commencement of Term 3. I have missed the vibrancy of the College and the excitement and engagement that comes from interacting with the students, staff and the wider community.
In keeping with our Mercy Value of Hospitality, staff and students have warmly welcomed me back, helping me to feel comfortable in my return to work. Personally, I am feeling well, however, I recognise that there will be a period of adjustment after being away for an extended period of time. As always, I remain committed to the privileged opportunity of leading the College community and seeking positive outcomes for all students and their families.
I am extremely grateful to Mr Vince Bellini (Acting Principal) who came for a term and stayed for a year. His generosity and flexibility provided a high level of stability and continuity for the College which benefited all. Vince stated that he thoroughly enjoyed his time here and loved being part of the community.
Naturally, the staff of the College play a vital role in ensuring our success and it was a pleasure to welcome a number of new staff to our College this term. I look forward to the positive contribution they will make.
On Tuesday, staff gathered and enthusiastically explored the core theme of ‘Faith in Action’ led by our Director of Ministry & Community, Mrs Karyn Cronin. The afternoon session saw our staff move from the theoretical to the practical, as they engaged in a variety of service activities for the wider community. Some of these included making meals for parish families in need, caring for the Wardandi Reserve in Australind and assisting St Vinnies staff in Treendale. The day was a valuable experience and served to deepen our personal experience of ‘faith in action’ in working at the College.
It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of a much-loved former staff member, Mrs Bev Seroka. Prior to working at Our Lady of Mercy College, Bev worked at Bunbury Catholic College. On Tuesday, staff gathered to celebrate the life of our colleague and friend. Bev went above and beyond in her role as an Education Assistant. She was a source of unwavering support and someone who always showed kindness and patience. Bev dedicated herself to our students and staff, always going above and beyond in every task she undertook. Rest in Peace, Bev.
The term has commenced smoothly and despite the cold and rain, there is an underlying feeling of excitement among the students. Thank you for the part you play in helping build this positive and supportive environment at the College.
Regards,
Rob Crothers
Principal
