During Week 11 of Term 2, Year 10 students from Our Lady of Mercy College participated in Work Experience Week. This opportunity proved valuable in allowing students to explore a variety of industries, gain insight into the responsibilities required in the workplace and make informed subject selections for upper school.
Our largest cohort of 132 students participated in Work Experience Week this year and were kindly hosted by 97 employers from around the South West and Peel regions and also Perth.
College Careers and Vocational Education and Training (VET) staff and teachers visited students at their placements to speak with them and their supervisors/mentors. Here’s what some students had to say about their experiences:
“I enjoyed learning how to use different types of power tools and building things.”
“I have learnt how a workplace operates and developed my communication skills to suit a working environment. This experience has helped me gain confidence in the workforce.”
“I enjoyed working with the staff and hearing different ways of teaching. I also enjoyed working with the students and being able to build a connection with them as well as helping with their learning.”
“I really enjoyed doing work experience because I got to meet so many wonderful staff members and connect with all the beautiful children. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget.”
We are sincerely grateful for the developing partnerships between Our Lady of Mercy College and our local businesses and would like to thank all of them for their generous support in providing these opportunities for our students.
We would also like to acknowledge their staff who mentored our students and put their time into providing a meaningful learning experience.
